Trip Report:

This was really nothing more than an attempt to get out and about on a Sunday afternoon following a Seahawks victory in NYC. Since we didn't have much time before the sun set and since neither of us had actually ever been to the top of Pilchuck, we figured it would be a good one to knock off.

The trail head was completely enshrouded in clouds when we arrived so we weren't expecting too much in the way of views. This was also why there weren't any pictures taken. No views = no camera in the pack. As it turned out, a camera would have been wonderful, because just before reached the final ridge we poked up through the clouds and were treated with spectacular views all around. There is something so surreal about standing on a mountain looking down at a sea of clouds. Needless to say, it was truly beautiful especially with the sun on its way down.

As far as the trail is concerned. It, as usual is in good shape, though a bit rocky. Pilchuck gets a lot of foot traffic, so it sees its share of maintenance. There was some mud here and there, but nothing too nasty even for our Izzy the Schnauzer who made the trip and enjoyed it all aside from the final climb up the ladders on the summit.

We ended up getting back to the car just at twilight and quickly headed home. It was a great late afternoon/evening hike and with left with that fun feeling of getting away with sneaking a fun hike in.
